Overview

Equip.Ws (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is a product discovery service. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. We do not sell your personal data.

Information We Collect

Information you provide

We do not require account creation. The only information you voluntarily provide is your search queries when using our search bar.

Information collected automatically

  • Anonymous visitor ID — a randomly generated identifier stored in your browser’s localStorage and as a 30-day cookie. This ID is not linked to any personal information and is used to power search history suggestions within your browser.
  • Search history — your last 12 searches are stored locally in your browser’s localStorage. This data never leaves your device unless you submit a search, at which point the query is sent to our servers to retrieve results.
  • Persona preference — your selected browsing persona (e.g., “Gamer” or “Pro”) is stored locally in your browser.
  • Usage data — standard web server logs including IP address, browser type, referring URL, pages visited, and timestamps. Logs are retained for up to 90 days.

Cookies

We set one first-party cookie: equipws_vid, which contains your anonymous visitor ID and expires after 30 days. We do not use third-party tracking cookies directly.

We use Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics 4, which may set their own cookies to measure aggregate site usage. See Google’s Privacy Policy for details on how Google handles this data.

How We Use Your Information

  • To return relevant product search results
  • To power autosuggest based on your local search history
  • To measure and improve site performance via aggregated analytics
  • To detect and prevent abuse or fraud

Affiliate Links

Equip.Ws displays product links to third-party retailers including Amazon, eBay, Walmart, Wayfair, Best Buy, Newegg, Overstock, Home Depot, Target, and Staples. These links may include affiliate tracking parameters. When you click a link and make a purchase, the retailer may share a small commission with us at no additional cost to you. The retailer’s own privacy policy governs data collected on their site.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share data with:

  • Service providers — hosting (Vercel), analytics (Google Analytics), and infrastructure providers who process data on our behalf under confidentiality agreements.
  • Legal requirements — if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of Equip.Ws and its users.

Data Retention

Server logs are retained for 90 days. Anonymous visitor IDs expire after 30 days. Search history exists only in your browser and can be cleared at any time by clearing your browser’s localStorage.

Your Choices

  • Clear search history — clear localStorage in your browser settings (usually under Developer Tools → Application → Local Storage).
  • Opt out of analytics — install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
  • Do Not Track — we honor DNT signals where technically feasible.

Children’s Privacy

Equip.Ws is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above will reflect any changes. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
